A rare sighting of six Pallas’s cat kittens, unusually large for a litter, appearing just after sunset to play and explore. At about 8 weeks old, the kittens begin to explore but stay close to the safety of the rocks, cautious of sounds and sights.
We waited in a hide for hours daily, setting it up early so the kittens would get used to it and not be disturbed during their active times. Pallas's cats are secretive and slow-moving, blending into their environment. They are most active at dawn and dusk, so the time to see and photograph them was short and in low light.
This photo was highly commended in the Wildlife Photographer of the Year 61 competition.
