Maybe this image somewhat manages to convey the incredible feeling of being completely surrounded by a pack of arctic wolves, which is truly a completely surreal and almost otherworldly experience! I laid down quietly on the ice, and slowly, they approached to check me out closely, showing genuine curiosity rather than fear or aggression. At no point did we feel in danger; they were simply intrigued by our presence and calm demeanor. For those of you who might wonder how something like this could even be possible in the wild — well, this particular area of Ellesmere Island is so remote and untouched that the wolves there have never been persecuted or hunted by humans, making them remarkably naive and unafraid of human beings. This rare innocence is exactly why we ventured all the way to what feels like the literal edge of the world. There is probably no other place on Earth where you can have an experience quite like this!
